WAFDAL Secretary’s report 2007-2009

The Croatian Dalmatian Club ‘Atila Dubac’ was host for the 8th ECDC event. The meeting of delegates and congress took place on the 7th of June 2007 in Zagreb/Croatia. Damir Skok, president of the Croatian Kennel Club and Ivana Bakal, chairman of the Croatian Dalmatian Club gave all present a warm welcome. The meeting was attended by the delegates of 12 member-clubs, one observer club and 2 new candidate clubs.

During the meeting 3 new candidate clubs were elected as members: the Dalmatian Club of Cuba (no delegate present), the Croatian Dalmatian Club ‘HKPDP-Dalmatinac’ and the Hungarian Dalmatian Club. After the elections the ECDC counted 18 member-clubs from 15 countries. For further information one can refer to the minutes of the meeting 2007.

In order to be officially recognised by and to be able to have direct contact with the FCI, the Meeting of Delegates decided to apply for a new status and to change the name of the ECDC into: World Association For Dalmatians (WAFDAL). This also implied that the ‘Rules and regulations’ had to be amended and a contract had to be signed by both the FCI and the Croatian Kennel Club. The official recognition has been a long and slow process, also due to unforseen difficulties in the WAFDAL committee, but is reaching its final stage.

Committee:

Frans de Ridder, Alfred Ronneburg and Annemiek Morgans were re-elected as resp. chairman, treasurer and secretary. Herbert Nagel was re-elected as auditor.

Health/breeding committee:

Åsa Boholm resigned from the committee, as new candidates were elected Lena Erlandsson from Sweden and Sally Ann Clegg from France. Re-elected were the following members:

Prof. dr. Tyge Greibrokk as chairman, Radana Zachova, Rhys Morgans and dr. Dominique Vincent.

Judging committee

Åke Cronander (chairman), Liliane de Ridder-Onghena,  Åase Jakobsen, Alfred Ronneburg and Radana Zachova were all re-elected.

After the meeting the congress started with the following themes and speakers: Dalmatian dog and his authochthonicity in Dalmatia by Boris Spoljaric, Dalmatian breeding in Estonia by Jelena Kruus, the Australian Dalmatians through the eyes of Visual Impact kennel by Michael McConachy and Dalmatians in New Zealand by Gill Butcher.

On 08-06-2007 the ECDC show was held with an entry of 103 Dalmatians for judges Frans de Ridder from Belgium for dogs, Jelena Kruus from Estonia for bitches and Damir Skok for BIS. Best dog + BIS was Multi Ch. Bell-A-Mir’s Elegant Envoy owned by S. Jacobsen, H. Höie and S. Ivarsson from Sweden. Best Bitch was Ch. Alphadirato Exact Copy, owned by L. Ratas and K. Heinlaid from Estonia. Two more shows followed in the next days: the Euro Dog Show and the Croatian Dalmatian Clubshow. It was a great Dalmatian event for which we are very thankful to the Croatian Kennel Club and Dalmatian Club Atila Dubac.

The past 2 years have been marked by a period of very little activity due to very sad circumstances. On 18 October 2007 we were shocked by the sudden death of our treasurer Alfred Ronneburg. Together with his wife he was a successful breeder of Dalmatians under the kennelname ‘Von Hause Lutzina’ with numerous champions as result. For the German Dalmatian Club DDC he had been a devoted committee member during 33 years, for which he was decorated a number of times. Next to this he was also a much appreciated judge of our breed. He was actively involved in the establishing of the ECDC and he served our organisation as treasurer since 2001. The Dalmatian world owes him a lot.

Secondly, our chairman Frans de Ridder has been seriously ill in the last period of time. Under these circumstances the committee has had too little manpower to realise any good activities. We are very pleased that our chairman is amongst us again today and we wish him all the best for the future.

I wish you all an informative and positive WAFDAL event in Oslo and for the next years much happiness among your dear spotted friends,

Vollenhove NL, 10 August 2009
